Introduction

Practicing environment for firefighter is complicated to build, costly and risky. With the rise of technology, VR application becomes a brilliant solution for virtual practice environment and an interesting place for them to practice with numerous scenarios time after time.

Description

RPG is a Role Play Game application which helps firefighters can practice in various scenarios. It simulates the real world with actual situations for them to practice with no risk and low-cost setup environment. With RPG, firefighters now can practice without limit, by themself or corporate with their teammates. The application can also provide a genuine experience with virtual humans stimulate from the actual humans with no harm.

In RPG, scenarios can be setup, edited and create a new one with no limitation to stimulate a real life, actual experience which no application provided before. Scenarios can be chosen from various levels which are suitable for any firefighters, from the novice to expert. In RPG, you will have multiplayer mode where you can play and practice with your teammates like an actual case. With the ability to grab and hold an object, firefighters can have an experience of how to handling the situation or further case like controlling a robot to do an action.

With VR technology, firefighters can have actual experiences with touch, hold and handle everything in the virtual world. Not only that, the communication and interaction in VR is real, it gives firefighters an advance when facing an actual situation. Difficult and dangerous situations can be handled safely with virtual reality training. Firefighters can be prepared to handle emergencies.

Interaction Design

Grab and use tools: Ability to interact with objects in user interface is needed, especially tools and equipments in this scenario. By interacting with objects, users can learn how to use and get familiar with them faster.

Open doors: Different doors have different ways to open. Using the right tools and beware of what is behind the door is a must for firefighters.

Extinguish fire: Extinguishing the fire gives firefighters the ability to practice and experience different fire. Different fire needs different ways to approach. Water is not a good choice if you do not understand it clearly.

Falling of unstable objects: Firefighters are usually facing dangerous situations with many unexpected incidents. Beware of falling objects is part of their job, by monitoring what could fall down can save them and others’ lives.

Technical Development
- Handle objects:
- Users can grab, drop, interact with the objects via Oculus headsets. Objects can be handled with both hands. Unfortunately, a gun trigger can only work with button A of right-hand controller.
- Open doors:
- Opening doors is working when users come closer to the door’s area. Door will be opened when users step into a trigger area.
- Extinguish fire:
- Extinguishing fire can be done by trigger the water gun. Application will calculate the projectile and destroy the fire.
- Falling objects:
- Falling objects happen when users come to a certain area or do an action. The event gives users an awareness of what happens around.

3D Models
Apartment Kit
Apartment Kit gives a full model of an actual apartment in which many rooms and tools can be customised for the practicing environment. It gives users a proper feeling when practicing under any circumstances.
Water gun
Water gun with high water compress ability helps novice users can practice in virtual environments without worrying about insufficiency of water. It gives users a feeling that they are playing a game while practicing.
Unity Particle Pack
Unity Particle Pack gives us many great options to choose from fire to electric and many more effects. We can build many scenarios with it.
Oculus Integration
Oculus Integration brings advanced rendering, social, platform, audio, and Avatars development support for Oculus VR devices. With Oculus, we can give users an experience while practice with the device.
