Assignment 3 Report



1.    Introduction

Earth and Space Science are not so interesting for students because of the limited of facilities and ability to discover the real things. With the rise AR technology, students now have more access to high level of technology from anywhere around the world. They can learn and control machine to discover interesting or dangerous area in safe and sophisticated way.

2.    Application Description

The inability of theoretical knowledge to be transferred into practical work, and thus a smooth transition from university to professional life, are issues that have yet to be adequately addressed. AR can assist in overcoming these challenges by real-time merging of the physical and digital worlds. AR is used to augmenting the perception of the real world with virtual objects (Vladimir, 2020). The traditional learning model is being challenged by augmented reality. It offers novel approaches and tools for encouraging and motivating students, making learning more engaging by incorporating elements of interaction and creativity, self-learning and self-exploration, and adding gaming elements to support textbook materials, all with the goal of improving learning efficiency (Vladimir, 2020).

Distance from Earth to other planets is an enormous gap for students who are interested in astronomy and space science. Such information cannot be obtained for any other world due to the distance involved (Peter, 2010). To bridge the gap for students and scientists, application is designed to make an augmented reality so that they can practice and penetrate for upcoming reality challenges (Yoseph, 2009). For pupils, the application advocates them and gives them more interested in space science.

3.    Interaction Design


a.    Moving back and forth

To discover and examine the new environment, moving is a compulsory action. Students can observe, discover and penetrate things around by moving the environment.

b.    Rotate the machine

Changing the direction is necessary for every machine as they are moving. Different environments have different difficulty, avoiding the obstacles is always a high priority.

c.     Turn on the light

From different surface, light may not enough. Not only the light, the energy is also another problem to be concerned. Using energy more efficiency is always benefit for human and to prolong the working time of the machine.

4.    Technical Development

Every interaction is developed based on Vuforia and Unity application. This is the window webcam application.

a.    Moving forward

From the interface, the user can control and move the machine by virtual button. Machine will move forward when users put and hold their finger in the forward virtual button.

b.    Moving backward

From the interface, the user can control and move the machine by virtual button. Machine will move backward when users put and hold their finger in the forward virtual button.

c.     Rotating

User can rotate machine easily by holding rotate virtual button. Machine will rotate from left to right and will stop when users take their finger out of the button.

d.    Turn off the light

User can control the light by holding their finger at the light button. By default, the light is on. When users keep their finger on the virtual button, the light will be off.

5.    3D models

a.    Heavy Machinery

Heavy Machinery model gives users a real experience like controlling the machine and it matches with a real machine. Practicing with real model, users can bridge the gap when doing some real remote control machine.


b.    Standard Assets

Standard Assets give us many effects and many prefabs to customize our application. With the effects, we can build and let users have real experiences.
